Psychology is one of the youngest sciences. But when we talk about its development period it is as old as the other sciences. According to Herman it's past is long but it's history is short. The history of psychology is divided into the four time periods Greek period, middle ages, rennaissance and modern age.
Greek period
In this period not only philosophy, logic astrology,physics, chemistry and arts but psychology also progressed.
The Greek philosopher's views are divided into two categories number 1 is cosmic view and the other one is sophistic views.
First we talk about the cosmic views according to him he said that water is the basic reality of physical world but on the other hand Democritus said universe is the total of atoms moving in an order.
In sophisticated views hypocrites views is based on the four elements like fire water clay and air are found in human beings in the liquid form so the human temperament is divided into four types phlegmatic, choleric, sanguine and melancholic.
Socrates was the first to use the word psyche meaning soul mind or self said that the other name of psyche is self consciousness . He was the student of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle he became famous for his interpretation of dreams and conscious impulses, perception and personality theories. He present the mind body dualism theory it means that the body and mind have no relation with each other entities and work independently.
Middle ages
Middle ages was divided into two periods 1 is Christian period and the other one is Muslim period.
However in both periods the science and philosophy was under the influence of religion in Europe the period of Muslim philosopher started in 6th century with the advent of last profit Jazrat Muhammad peace be upon him.
