Stop Breastfeeding and depression

 Breastfeeding is one the difficult tasks that a mother perform for a period of time of her baby. Breastfeeding is process full of emotions, love and care. This is a bond of intense attachment. But time came when mother have to stop Breastfeed her baby and this is a time of anxiety and depression. I want to share my experience that as I stop breastfeeding my baby, I felt like he is going far from me. And also I have constant thoughts but his meals, milk and also about his health. I have to stick on my decision and it was very difficult. I cry often, I feel sad, I don't want to talk with others and also used to spend more time with my baby while playing with him. As a psychologist, I have realized that why don't talk about breastfeeding related issues and maternal mental care as well about postpartum depression. Mothers really need help, support and counseling for catharsis and as well as mental health well being.

Teenage psychological problems

It's normal to see tantrums, emotional outburst, irritated mood among adolescent.  Adolescence is a unique as well as formative time. Many changes seen like emotional, physical and social changes that includes exposure to abuse and violence, poverty, social and peer group challenges and this make adolescents vulnerable to mental health problems. Narcissistic personality disorder

 There are number of personality disorders and narcissistic is from one of them. It is defined as the mental condition in which one can have sense of their own importance, worth, need excessive attention and admiration. In results it cause trouble in maintaining and making relationship because they lack empathy for others. However the root of cause of the condition is still unknown but there are contributing factors like early childhood environment, parenting style, peer group, family history and hypersensitivity etc. We can find people who have these kind of symptoms but not in severity but it's okay to confront them and educate them about their behavior and thinking pattern so that it will not lead them to serious mental Illness.

Domestic violence in Pakistan and mental health illness

 Pakistan is a country full of culture and religion oriented. Most of the families have joint system and so many problem arises within the family that disturb a person mentally and physically as well.  Research has been conducted by UN and found that about 59 percent of the women living in Pakistan are physically battered and around 90 percent are mentally and verbally abused by their partner. And also the study revealed that cases of mental and physical abuse took place in 80 percent houses. However in Pakistan women are know more empowered and independent and also there are laws which protect women from any kind of violence and give them their rights. To avoid domestic voilence one should confront her partner at very early stage of violence and take steps to get rid of it. Because the violence make the women more depressed and hence many cases have been seen of suicide due to domestic voilence.

Unique symptoms of COVID-19 are now emerging

 COVID-19 is always a serious and highlighted topic since 2019. We all know the common symptoms of COVID-19 like loss of taste and smell, influenza symptoms etc. Vaccine was prepared and most of the population get their vaccination shot in order to mark themselves safe. But with emerging variant the new symptoms are seen in the patients. According to NHS, Cough, loss of sense of smell and taste are the main symptoms of coronavirus. But recently it has been reported that sore throat, blocked or runny nose and headache as symptoms. The symptoms are going beyond including hearing loss, skin lesions except regular cold and flu.

COVID 19 affect the maternal mental health

 The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) leads to several disruption of social, economical interactions abs also affecting the mental health state. Overall it disturbs the important aspects of human life. According to the analytics by WHO, COVID-19 had already had a staggering impact on the world, with over 40% of the world's population who already infected once by mid of November 2021. Cases of anxiety and depression reported about 25% globally, associated with COVID 19. COVID-19 mental health, with anxiety and In addition, statistical evidence shows COVID-19 has had a more severe effect on women's mental health than men, a Statistical evidence showed that COVID 19 affect women mental health more than men. Reported in the journal of reproductive health, two researches showed that virus has unexpected impact on the maternal mental health. Binge watching and mental illness

 Watching TV or using multimedia is now a part of everyone's routine. Social media and different applications took our most of the time and we forget to interact with our loved ones face to face. Binge-watching television may seem like a perfectly harmless way to occupy your Friday night, it may actually be an indication of serious mental health problem. A study published Thursday found people who binge-watch television tend to be among the most depressed and lonely. Likewise if you are continuously on media and you have no time for others, it will gradually make you feel alone. Binge watching is not productive at all not good for your physical and mental health.  You always need a support system to cover and cope with your daily life problems.

Mental illness in Pakistan

Pakistani is a country based on Islamic republic. Day by day we have faced to many problems like inflation, poverty, unemployment, suicidal news, terrorism, political situations etc.  Mental illness take it's root in Pakistan.  Psychological problems in Pakistan are widespread. According to one estimate, around 50 million people in Pakistan suffer from mental disorders . A range of psychiatric disorders have been reported, such as depression, substance and alcohol misuse, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Assertiveness

 Assertiveness is a healthy way of communicating. It's the ability to speak up for ourselves in a way that is honest and respectful. In other words, assertiveness is the ability and way of saying what you want to say. Like assertiveness is to say yes when you want to. And also it is like to say no when you want to say no but in a very respectful manner.  Assertive training help individual to face the situation efficiently and also it helps maintain the relationship.  Every day, we're in situations where being assertive can help us — like asking someone on a date, approaching a teacher with a question, or doing well on a job or college interview.

Mental Health

  Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being.  It is all about how people think, feel, and behave. Mental Health is as important as your physical health.  Mental health can affect daily life functions, relationships, and physical health. Factors in people’s lives including interpersonal connections, and physical factors can all contribute to mental health issues. Looking after mental health can preserve a person’s ability to enjoy life. Doing this involves reaching a balance between life activities, responsibilities, and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. Conditions such as stress, depression, and anxiety can all affect mental health and disrupt a person’s routine.

Diagnosis vs stigmatization

 In clinical setting, psychologists diagnose their client just to have sessions in a proper way and to have clear picture of the condition by considering all of the symptoms. Psychologists usually focus on symptoms and work on them because diagnosis is an umbrella term as it includes number of symptoms with severity.  But on the other side, People who are from society, family and other show cold behavior by labeling a person and here stigmatization begins.  Diagnosis helps psychologist to plan a session but on the other hand psychologist or counselor focus on symptoms. Due to cultural diversity, some symptoms of any disorder don't exist or seen in a client, but can be seen in other one from different culture.

Bullying at School | Mental Health Issues in Adulthood

 Bullying is seen as a behavior to harm and  intimidate. Bullying disturb the victim physically as well mentally, leads to poor performance in school work and low self esteem. Many children avoid going to school, and they don't want to participate in social activities. An incident has reported in Norway that 3 boys committed suicide and left a notes. Those notes describe that they experienced bullying at school and in a result they loss interest in studies and  avoid going to school.  This is not only the example but there are many more in every region of the world. By looking at these incidents and their consequences we have to take steps to create bully- free environment by at least educate your own child about bullying, being a bully, being a victim. Help your child and talk about it freely and help him to cope with it. Postpartum depression Depression is a mental disorder we have discussed about many times. Postpartum depression is something that has not been discussed and people may not aware about it's symptoms, severity and criticalness.  The depression prior to giving birth. Usually we don't talk about it because we don't take it as serious condition.
