Online counseling sessions

Hi today I am going to discuss about the online counselling sessions with the client. Aisa psychologist it is very difficult and challenging task to take online session. Because we used to take session in an appropriate setting we observe the client and his/her mental state.  Psychologist used to observe the client and his behaviour related to the mental health and all the scenarios that are associated with the client. Observation is a part of assessment as well as it leads to many hypothesis that need to be tested in the treatment portion.  During online session sometimes video call does not work and you have to take the session only on audio call. Lack of expressions and lack of observation becomes challenging for the psychologist to move further.  But now people are looking for short term therapy and they do not have time to come to hospital setting and have a proper session they just need a urgent session and the need urgent relaxment.  However for the better results and better co

Infertility leads to many problem that includes relationship instability between couples, it can be the frustration, feeling of sadness and hopelessness, feeling of worthlessness, anxiety and more prone to depression.   Why these symptoms or conditions are more likely to present in infertile couple as compared to fertile? Because the infertile couple go through number of treatments and attempts in their life. And when they could not get the result positive they became frustrated and have feeling of sadness and hopelessness. Sometimes Hospital staff gave couple 100% hope to conceive but in the end the result is zero that leads to the more depressive condition.  The couples with infertility problem most of the time deal with the behaviour of other people who question about the

Dr amir Liaquat Hussain passes away

Today 9.6.2022, Dr amir Liaquat Hussain found dead at his home. This news was very sad to hear and many people were in shock after they hear the news of Aamir Liaquat Hussain's death. He was for sure suffering from many mental/ psychological problems. Social media is very cruel, it plays it's role by targeting a person and his life and his career and making memes on any individual they want. There is no check and balance on social media accounts that why they provide misleading information about an individual. Aamir Liaquat suffer from these kind of activities done by many social media accounts they put pictures, videos, leaked his private videos on internet. How anyone can be stable when his personal life is discussed among thousands of people? Do we really realize what we are doing on internet? Do we really realise that we are damaging the mental health of an individual?  Do we really realise that we can be a cause of anyone death? We should take a time sit for a time think a

Current Pakistan economy

Currently Pakistan's status of economy is very low, petrol prices are high, taxes are higher and quality of life is poor. We are suffering from a poor lifestyle because one cannot full fill his basic needs. And this situation leads to the several psychological problems. Petrol prices increasing day by day. Grocery items are getting out of hand. Traveling expense become double. Electricity prices increased. LPG prices increased. Each and every item that we buy now has 20 to 100 rupees increased. We are losing the hope to survive. We are losing the hope to have better lifestyle.

Clinical approach in dealing with clients

For the clinical approach we use the model named as bio psycho social and spiritual model. This model helps the clinical psychologist to look into the clients problem in different aspects including biological factors, psychological factors, social factors and Faith or believes that contribute in the life of a client. Psychologist describe that how biological factors, psychological, social and spiritual factors contributed to the current situation of the client and how these factors affect a client in his life. Biopsycho social and spiritual model usually helps in the assessment part of the session. The clinical practices and clinical Psychology definition depends on this whole model. It covers all of the areas that can effect a person.

IQ versus learning ability

As a psychologist and professionalist, I have seen that people talk about IQ means intelligent quotient and assess their IQ by taking a test which is not developed according to our culture and our country. Rather than conducting a test and measuring IQ we should focus on the learning abilities through the trial and error method. Not only try and error method there several ways to measure and observe or assess the learning ability of a client. In trial and error method with the number of trial the response of the correct answers increases. And it showed the ability of a client to learn and retain the new things. But if the graph of the correct responses with the number of trials is not increased but show some deterioration then there is need to be checked the client properly and his learning abilities.  ..

Psychological testing in Pakistan

There was a time when we learn about the psychological testing and we use the test who are not developed and based on our cultural norms. It is unjustified to conduct a test on our patients of clients that is not developed according to our situation according to our nature and culture.  Some psychologist do malpractices like they conduct psychological testing without concerning about the language, the nature, the values of the test according to your culture. And hence the results are not reliable.  Now the professionals develop and validate there own test according to their patient. These test are now reliable and have validity and they are according to our cultural norms.

Scope of psychology

In Pakistan there is like scope of psychology is not very much but you can struggle you can make your own place, you can work independently ,can work in hospital settings, you can take sessions online and you can write essays and assignments. This is not true to say that there is no scope but there might be some less opportunities. There are number of psychologists who are working in well reputed organisation and they work there as a counselor, as a career counselor and clinical expert. Psychologists find their own way and adjust in different settings and provide services. It's true that people don't have still more knowledge and awareness of mental health well being.

Stubbornness in children

I have seen number of mothers complain about their child that they behave not properly and they misbehaved in front of their parents. Children are the one who learn by observing the environment provided by the parents and the family members. To reduce the stubbornness in child you should minimise the strictness over the child. Because when a child is in higher stage of anger mother or father should not be as same as the child in the higher level of anger but one should play a role to calm down.  Give your child some space and some time to realize but he have done. Do not scold your child in front of any other person. Do not compare your child in term of is ability is in academics and as well as in sports and any area. Accept your child as an individual personality who have his own likes and dislikes and he has his own way of expressing his abilities in an area. Give your child freedom in a controlled environment. Do not always point out the mistakes of your child whether it is very sm

Some people encourage your efforts and appreciate your work but at the same time there may be some person who drag you and demotivate you and me make your confidence low. Now the question is how to avoid the negativity around you in workplace or at home or at office is or anywhere where you are. All you need is to set your priorities and to set your goals. We all have long term goals in our life like buying a car, starting a business, your wedding, and many other depends on your choice. But I am talking about the short goals that based on your daily life routine. Set your goals that are easy to achieve and complete in a short period of time on daily basis. By setting the daily basis goals you pay attention to your work you goal maybe going to your workplace, the second completing your all task, answering your phone calls, going for a lunch, coming back home at time, manage your work load. Learning influence by different factors

Learning is a process that takes time, attention and energy. However there are different factors that reduce the learning process in an individual. There are some factors for example adjustment, motivation, attitude and interest of the learner, observation, problem solving attitude, physical health and mental health, reinforcement and knowledge of result of feedback, meaningful and meaningless material or stimuli, space and unsped learning, nature of the goal and so and so forth.

Learning by conditioning

Learning through association and learning by conditioning is the same to know. The association is taken between the stimulus and the response. Pavov and BF Skinner are famous for the experiments on conditional learning. Classical conditioning Classical conditioning means a kind of learning in which the response is made due to the stimulus that is neutral and that naturally bring about the response. Pavlov is the founder of classical conditioning and he did experiment on the dog. He inserted a tube in the dogs cheek to measure the saliva. During the experiment he saw that the dog secreted saliva not only at the time when he was eating food but also at the time when he saw the utensils of the food or when he saw the man who brought food for him. Then according to his experiment he put a bell before dog have a food. Now the well rang was the conditioned stimulus or learned stimulus.  He further modified is experiment and then he concluded the food as the unconditional stimulus that is na

Learning by insight

Kohler was famous for learning by insight he conducted an experiment on monkeys and prove that monkeys have higher chance to use their intelligence as the situation provide them a chance to utilize it. He provided natural environment to the monkeys. He placed a wooden box and hang the bananas higher in the cage. When one of the monkeys entered the cage he wanted that bananas but those were so high that he cannot reach to them easily. Then by exploring the environment and the things around him in the cage he drag the box and then he utilise that box is stand on it and reach to the bananas. It is provide by the observations and experiments that human learning is based more on the intelligence then on trial and error type of learning. ..

Learning through observation

Observational learning or learning through imitation results from observing or watching the others behaviour. Bandura was the one who is The pioneer of researching the observational learning according to him observational learning occurs in 4 types of steps. Number one is observing the behaviour of another person attentively number 2 is remember the observed behaviour number 3rd is reproduction of that behaviour and in the end motivated to learn and continue that behaviour that is being observed.  From experiments it is seen that observational learning is not only present in humans but also found in animals. .

Trail and error

Learning is a beautiful process that starts from the birth of a child on a baby and continuous till the death, it brings about a change and modification in the individuals behaviour, attitude and personality. They are different ways to learn as learning is a purposive action it occurs only when the learner is ready and want to learn. There are four types of learning one is learning by trial and error second one is observational learning or learning by imitation third is inside learning and 4th one is learning by conditioning. Learning by trial and error When we talk about learning through trial and error thorndike is famous for this experiment. He conducted the experiments on cat and he closed hungry cat in a box of puzzle and place the piece of meat outside as an incentive or reward when cat comes out she will get the meat. It was difficult for CAT to open the gate or door but through multiple trials the cat learn the way to open the door and she came out and eat the meet and this is

History of Psychology

Psychology is one of the youngest sciences. But when we talk about its development period it is as old as the other sciences. According to Herman it's past is long but it's history is short. The history of psychology is divided into the four time periods Greek period, middle ages, rennaissance and modern age. Greek period  In this period not only philosophy, logic astrology, physics, chemistry and arts but psychology also progressed. The Greek philosopher's views are divided into two categories number 1 is cosmic view and the other one is sophistic views. First we talk about the cosmic views according to him he said that water is the basic reality of physical world but on the other hand Democritus said universe is the total of atoms moving in an order.  In sophisticated views hypocrites views is based on the four elements like fire water clay and air are found in human beings in the liquid form so the human temperament is divided into four types phlegmatic, choleric, sangu

Memory introduction

According to woodworth memory is defined as to remember which has been learned in the past. According to psychology there are various definition of memory but operational definition of memory is seen as the storage and retrieval of information. However memory is classified in three types named as sensory information storage, short term memory and long term memory.  Sensory information storage  According to feldman this type of memory is taken as initial and it is short lived storage of information recorded as a meaningless stimulus. As it's name suggested that sensory means receive the information through all of your senses. Short term memory According to feldman short term memory is taken as the storage of information for about 15 to 25 seconds and it is also known as working memory. It is also named as primary memory. In this case the memory is stored in terms of meanings rather than as sensory stimulation. The rate of forgetting is very fast in short term memory because it reta

Parenting styles | children behavior

In shaping and molding the behavior of a child parents play an important role. Parents are responsible for giving a child better environment, teaching appropriate language, and building positive approach in a child. Child learn simply by observing  the environment around him.  In psychology we usually talk about parenting styles and it's impact on child's personality and behavior. Here are four types of parenting styles including authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and neglected. As their name shows the nature of parenting styles. Authoritative parents set rules, and they use consequences, but they also take their children’s opinions into account. They understand their children’s feelings while also making it clear that the adults are ultimately in charge. They have positive discipline strategies to reinforce good behavior by praising their child. Children with parents who demonstrate this style tend to be self-disciplined and well motivated. Authoritarian parenting  In th

Humanistic Model

In 1950s and 1950s another model of psychology has emerged named as Humanistic Model. It rejects the apraich that behavior is determined by the automatic forced and unconscious. According to this Model, people have control on their own lives and they have ability to make decisions about their own selves. It aims to understand the values of individual and group and also people's needs and goals, and gap between their potential and the fulfillment of those needs and goals. Abraham Maslow was the founder of Humanistic Model and it became officially part of APA in 1972. Maslow presented a heirarchy of human needs. He placed biological needs of physical survival in the bottom and self actualization at the top of the heirarchy. The other founder of this model was Carl Rogers, who was famous for his client or person centered therapy. In this therapy he allow his clients to make decisions and look into problem freely and he never advised them.

Cognitive model

Cognitive model in psychology focus on how people know, understand and think of the world, in other words how people perceive things around them. This model was evolved after the Watson's view of behavioral model. According to Tolman and William, who were behaviorists, man is a purposive animal and in understanding the behavior only stimulus reaction theory is not helpful but it should be stimulus organism reaction. Cognitive approach helps to understand an individual and his mental state that includes the thinking, emotional, behavioral patterns. And also how past experiences leads to the change in an individual later in life.

Criminal and correctional psychology

This branch of psychology specially focus on understanding the causes of crime and also how to eliminate the crime. It classifies the criminal and differentiate between the juveline delinquent and habitual criminal. It opposes the vindictive punishment of life imprisonment. It deals with the criminals to realize what they have done and work on their negative attitude towards life. Also this branch of psychology is responsible of analyzing and assessing the guiltiness of the suspect.

Goals of Psychology

According to Henry and Bonner, goal of psychology is to understand the facts and principles of behavior, art of controlling others and with better evaluation of ourselves. According to Huffman in 1997, psychology has as a science has four goals. One is description of behavior, explanation of behavior, prediction and modification. However goal of psychology mainly is to quality of behavior through diagnosis and prognosis. Hence to promote mental health well being in humen.
